Bullhead City Forms BAADD

Mohave Valley News reports that community members in Bullhead City have come together to form a new anti-drug coalition called BAADD -- Bullhead Area Against Destructive Decisions. The group is modeled after the popular student anti-drug group Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD).

The group had their first meeting last week, where many community members voiced concerns over drug use and underage drinking. Five people at the meeting stepped up to form a board and lead the new coalition. The group's next board meeting will be on April 2 at Firehouse Coffee Company, located at 2350 Miracle Mile. The board meeting will start at 8:30 a.m.

Tammany McDaniel, director of community initiatives for the Arizona Youth Partnership, says "No one is not welcome," when it comes to the group's board meetings. BAADD members want to have open meetings so that everybody can have a voice in the group.

If the group is looking to create initiatives relating to stopping drunk driving, substance abuse problems and underage drinking, then there seems like there is a lot of progress that can be made. Arizona DUI attorneys hear of the many DUI arrests, accidents, and fatalities that occur across the Grand Canyon state each day. AlcoholAlert.com reports that there were 329 alcohol related fatalities in 2008, marking 35 percent of the total fatalities that year. This however is lower than the 502 alcohol related fatalities in Arizona that occurred in 2006. A new anti-drug coalition might be just what the Bullhead Area needs to limit the number of drunk drivers and underage drinkers in the area. It's time to start thinking of alcohol and drug abuse in a BAADD way!
