AZ DUI Checkpoints: Peoria Checkpoint Planned For Memorial Day

| 1 TrackBack

It's always best to avoid drinking while driving, but Arizona drivers will especially want to take caution while driving drunk on Memorial Day. There will probably be lots of AZ DUI checkpoints during this upcoming holiday weekend. Memorial Day weekend is reportedly one of the most deadly holidays for motorists, but Valley officers are hoping to change this. The Arizona Republic reports that the West Valley DUI Force will be cracking down on impaired drivers with a checkpoint on Memorial Day that is scheduled to last for five hours.

On Monday May 31, the West Valley DUI Task Force will be holding a sobriety checkpoint at Castle Hot Springs Road at the Lake Pleasant entrance in Peoria. The checkpoint is scheduled to last from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The task force will also be having saturation patrols throughout the Valley, including officers patrolling the area of State Route 74.

Officers will be checking drivers for signs of impairment at the DUI checkpoint, but even with checkpoints, drivers still maintain their same legal rights. Authorities still cannot conduct illegal searches or mandate that drivers participate in field sobriety tests. Most importantly, drivers still have the right to contact a Phoenix DUI attorney when they've been stopped at a checkpoint.

An Arizona DUI attorney can often determine if a DUI arrest was wrongful or if a suspect's rights were violated during AZ DUI checkpoints. When defending a suspect, attorneys often evaluate all the evidence in case, including the procedures and results of any test chemical tests or field sobriety tests taken.
