Dick Simmons was pulled over for a simple traffic violation last Sunday, but is now in a great deal of trouble after he got into a fight with Scottsdale police officers.
The 30-year-old Dick Simmons was booked on charges of excessive speed, aggravated DUI, failure to obey, resisting arrest, and two counts of aggravated assault, according to ABC News. The suspect was reportedly pulled over for speeding near 100th Street and Cactus Road , but he tried to flee his vehicle by foot when police officers were approaching him.
Scottsdale police officers were eventually able to catch up with Dick Simmons at a front yard in a nearby home. But at this point, the suspect reportedly decided to start a physical fight with police officers. This of course led to an arrest, which prompted his booking on several charges.
It seems that Dick Simmons will certainly need an Arizona DUI attorney to defend him, if he is indeed charged with the various crimes. An aggravated DUI charge by itself is a very serious offense, where a conviction can lead to jail time, probation, fines, mandatory attendance to alcohol education and treatment programs, and installation of an ignition interlock device. If an Arizona DUI attorney is able to establish a plea agreement with prosecutors, Dick Simmons could be facing a reduced set of charges.
If you're pulled over through a routine traffic stop and an officer suspects that you're drunk or under the influence of drugs, it's a good idea to be cooperative with law enforcement officials and not start more trouble. Striking a police officer, for example, will likely lead to enhanced criminal charges.
