The agency states that their mission is to "identify and investigate drug and alcohol impaired drivers, and provide support to Highway Patrol, local and county agencies through training and logistical support." The DUI Enforcement Unit consists of one sworn sergeant, six sworn officers, and one civilian employee, all of whom go through training at the Arizona Department of Public Safety Advanced Basic Academy.
Training for the Enforcement Unit includes teaching new officers about the detection of impaired drivers, as well as procedures for successful investigation and prosecution. Yet drivers who have been accused of driving under the influence in the state of Arizona shouldn't lose all hope in winning their case, even if the DUI Enforcement Unit has training in legal procedures.
Drunk driving suspects should contact an Arizona DUI attorney so that they can receive the best defense possible in their case. A DUI attorney can evaluate all the evidence in a particular case and protect the legal rights of the defendant. See FindLaw's lawyer directory to find a DUI attorney in the Phoenix area.
