Phoenix Ranks in the Top 10 Cities For Fatal Teen Crashes

A 2008 study by Allstate Insurance Company found that the Phoenix metro area was the 6th deadliest hotspot in the nation, amongst the country's 50 largest metro areas, for teen crashes. The study examined federal crash statistics and rate of fatal crashes involving teen drivers.

The top three deadliest hotspots for teen drivers were all Florida metros and included Tampa, Orlando, and Jacksonville (first to third respectively). Other top 10 deadly places for teenage drivers include Nashville, Kansas City, Birmingham, Atlanta, Charlotte, and Louisville.

What factors contribute to Phoenix's high teen driver death rate? The Allstate study says that the four leading contributing factors include speeding, alcohol use, drug use, and lack of seatbelt use. Alcohol was identified as a contributing factor in 11.9% of crashes nationally. This of course is a huge concern among parents because driving under the influence of alcohol has been proven to be dangerous, as many accidents on Arizona roads involve a drunk driving.

Drunk driving also has serious legal consequences in the state of Arizona, where people under the age of 21 can be jailed or harshly punished in other ways from a DUI conviction. Just like adults, teenagers also have the right to an Arizona DUI attorney when they've been charged with a drunk driving crime. This is so the rights of DUI suspect can be protected.
