AAA Offers Tipsy Tow on 4th of July Weekend

The AAA auto club is trying to prevent drunk driving on America's birthday by offering a Tipsy Tow service in Phoenix, which will allow drivers and vehicle passengers to receive a one-way ride home if they've been drinking.

According to the Tucson Citizen, drivers, passengers, party hosts, bartenders and restaurant managers can call 1-800-AAA-HELP to request a "Tipsy Tow." AAA will then provide a free tow home up to 10 miles from the pick-up location. Even people who are not AAA members can take part in this free service.

Tipsy Tows will be available by AAA between 6:00 p.m. on Sunday July 4 and will run until 6:00 a.m. on Monday July 5. The purpose of the towing service is to provide party goers and bar patrons with a resource and alternative to driving while impaired.

A service like this can help Arizona drivers avoid a DUI conviction. It costs a great deal of money to hire a Phoenix DUI attorney and there are serious consequences associated with a DUI, including high fines and jail times. The AAA auto club estimates that even a first-time DUI conviction can cost drivers over $10,000 in fines, penalties, restitution, ignition interlock installation and maintenance, legal fees and increased insurance costs.

On holiday weekends people often like to relax with alcohol consumption, but law enforcers in the Valley still encourage Arizonians to drink responsibly and designate sober drivers. Perhaps a ride on the Tipsy Tow will remind drivers of all the alternatives to drinking and driving.
